The Software

NetLogo is the software that I will be using for this study. As of posting time, the latest version of NetLogo is 5.0.3.

So what is NetLogo?

NetLogo is an integrated modeling environment.. yada yada yada I'm on a learning spree I'll update this later.

The Topic

W..orking Title

Comparison of Microsimulations using Social Force and Social Comparison-based Algorithms on Crowd Dynamics is the working title of my Special Problem and I hope I got that long piece of text right. Basically, I'll have to analyze how algorithms based on cognitive/social theories perform when compared side-by-side with other related theories, and the different phenomena they exhibit. The simulations to be analyzed for this study will be conducted in a corridor, intersection, and staircase setting.

W...TF Is This For

It might sound boring but this can actually save your life especially when you're being run over to pieces in a middle of a stampede. The results of this study will give suggestions to people in power (architects, engineers, chancellors ehem-ehem) with regards to improving a certain structure's hallway/intersection/staircase architecture. Examples of gory incidents that will make you realize that my study is worth a lot/more than your life/or thousands of people are the Ozone Disco Club Fire (where majority of the people died/suffocated when they all rushed to the building's fire exit), Who concert disaster (one of the top 10 most deadliest rock concerts in the last 50 years; rock concert held in Cincinnati, 1979, where 11 fans died due to compressive asphyxia, in short, crushed lungs, when people rushed in for seating at the opening of a sold-out concert), and the PhilSports Stadium stampede (yes, architecure:audience ratio is at fault but mainly, screw you Willie Revillame).

W....hy so many dots

I hope I gave a pretty clear layman's explanation for my special problem with this post. Special thanks to my mentor, Sir FEVG Castro, for inspiring me that being afraid to commit to something just because of the fear of failing others' expectations will lead you nowhere, and Sir Jade Pabico... for the really great reviews about him by past advisees and non-advisees alike (see what I did there?). But seriously, without them, I wouldn't be here, toiling (LOL) and moreover, I wouldn't have a PCSC-worthy topic. Naks!

The Blog

New blog! But this time, it's not for leisure.

So I’m creating a new blog but this time, for a different purpose. Not for emotional poetry/ranting/tech finds/usual boredom-related stuff which eventually leads to an abandoned blog weeks later. This blog is dedicated for my SP (Special Problem) wherein I will post progress reports, dumb questions (Why did the banana go to the doctor? Because it’s not peeling well), and usual stuff which should not lead to an abandoned blog weeks later.

P.S: I came up with the blog name while peeing. No, I wasn’t thinking of my adviser per se, just my second name (which is coincidentally the same as his)
